2 Georgia baseball players named to Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list
Two Georgia baseball players, junior catcher/outfielder Daniel Jackson and junior infielder/outfielder Tre Phelps, were named to the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced Thursday.
There are 45 players on the list for the award, which is given to the top amateur player in the country. Former Bulldog Charlie Condon, who was the highest draft pick in program history when the Rockies selected him No. 3 overall in 2024, earned the honor two years ago.
Georgia’s offense is known for hitting for power, and it leads Division l as a team in home runs (87) and slugging (.649). Jackson is first on the team with 16 home runs, 47 RBIs and a .904 slugging percentage, with a team-best 14 stolen bases on 15 attempts.
Phelps leads the team in batting average (.423), on-base percentage (.551) and runs scored (43). He is third for the Bulldogs with 12 home runs and has been hit by a pitch an NCAA-best 20 times.
Semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award will be named May 14, finalists June 10 and the winner June 29.
